New Course on “Sustainable Development of Coastal Communities”

CIHEAM BARI is launching a new high-level stand-alone specialized Training Programme on “Sustainable Development of Coastal Communities” which will start in September 2019, funded by Italian Cooperation, and in collaboration with FAO within the context of the FAO’s Blue Hope Initiative framework.

The course aims to strengthen stakeholders’ capacities and develop and implement integrated management policies, strategies and tools, during a 10-week training programme offering a comprehensive view of the Blue Economy explored through a cross-sectoral approach.

Fishery, aquaculture and sustainable coastal development will be the major areas developed in the new course, focusing in particular on the management, technical and legal aspects, followed by administrative issues.

Participants will be 15 officials, representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Fishery of the following countries:

  • Mediterranean region: Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine,  Tunisia, Turkey,
  • Other countries from ACP (African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States) and IORA (Indian Ocean Rim Association)

Classes will include frontal lectures and interactive activities including visits and discussion sessions with private stakeholders, organised in weekly units.

Scholarships will be granted to selected participants
